Here at Thurstons we like to celebrate nature and the countryside and what better way of doing this than getting out in the wilderness and camping under the stars.
We are therefore providing a number of camping pitches within our wilderness area just outside of the main grounds of the house and gardens for guests to come and camp here with us.
The great advantage of the wilderness camping provided is that all pitches are separate and provide a great opportunity for you to experience the outdoors withing the self sown woodland, surrounding ponds and nature but knowing we are just across the road with all the modern advantages of running water, a toilet facility and even wifi if you need it.
Thurstons is a hidden woodland playground, surrounded by natural landscapes and rare wildlife including great crested newts and barn owls. There is something truly special about woodland camping, and just about every visitor that stays with us here seems to fall under its magical spell.
The site’s utterly basic, back-to-nature feel (there’s an onsite toilet block but no showers) may set it apart from some of its gaudy neighbours. We have a small limited number of unmarked plots each being secluded from the other and providing that wild and private feel on the camping experience.
Geographically the location is a winner. Despite being set in the middle of no where the local village is a short walk away and we are easy to find from the A12 with the nearest shops, pubs and supermarkets are surprisingly accessible in Saxmundham.
Thankfully some of Suffolks finest attractions are close by too. For visitors who love wildlife then RSPB Minsmere Nature Reserve is not far away. However with plenty of beaches, castles and wonderful Suffolk sites easily accessible from Thurstons then there is usually something for everyone.
Thurstons is magical by day, it really casts a spell at night. Sitting under the sparkling stars which seem to glow even brighter in the wilderness with very little if any light pollution, cooking up some tasty local produce, whilst experiencing the animals and wildlife is quintessentially what wilderness camping is all about. So why not get away and get back to nature here with us at Thurstons?
Camping pitches are available from £15 per night.
Toilet facilities, water and wifi can be provided at the main house and barns if needed.
